Welcome Centre Hosts

About the role:

We’re looking for friendly, sensitive and proactive people to volunteer in our Welcome centre in Weston-super-Mare and at our ‘pop-up’ welcome centres elsewhere in North Somerset.

If you love meeting people and want to help welcome refugees to the local area in a safe and supportive space, this could be the role for you.

Weston super Mare centralTuesdays and Fridays 11am-3pm
Banwell / West WickMondays 1pm-3pm
NailseaWednesdays 10am-12pm

Clevedonin planning stages

You’ll need to commit to at least two sessions per month. You’ll also need an up-to-date DBS check (which we will organise).

Your role might include:

  • Setting up rooms for guests by moving tables and chairs to make the space welcoming
  • Greeting people at the door
  • Making sure guests and volunteers are all marked on the register
  • Looking after the kitchen, offering people drinks and snacks, and making sure the kitchen area is kept clean and tidy
  • Chatting with guests and sharing food
  • Practicing English with guests
  • Answering questions about issues guests have had, such as filling in forms or making appointments
  • Debriefing and checking in with the volunteer coordinator, and peer support with other volunteers
