Legal Representation Process
Finding a legal representative, immigration advisor, lawyer, or solicitor is the most common request for refugee and asylum charities.
Please note that the demand is much greater than the supply.
Through our work with families and individuals in dispersal residencies, safehouses and all forms of NASS accommodation, RWNS field and monitor cases with multiple complex needs, requirements and demands. As a charity which is not registered with the UK Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner, we must be extremely precautionary and restrictive when dealing with any asylum cases that have ongoing elements and proceedings with HM Courts and Tribunal and / or European Court of Human Rights. Overall, we recognise that any advice or guidance provided by non-OISC registered agencies or organisations could damage or delegitimize an ongoing legal case.
For all active asylum cases, we therefore will firstly:
- Submit a referral through the Bristol Immigration Advice Service – https://iasservices.org.uk/bristol/
- Contact the Bristol Law Centre, as part of the South West Immigration Alliance
- Get you to call the Civil Legal Advice line to make sure you can get legal aid (0345 345 4345)
We will then signpost to:
- Legal Aid Adviser search engines: https://solicitors.lawsociety.org.uk/ and https://www.lawcentres.org.uk/get-help
- The Access to Justice (JCWI) Toolkit https://jcwi.org.uk/resource/access-to-justice-toolkit/
- Bristol Refugee Rights Advice Service: advice@bristolrefugeerights.org, and the Care4Calais Legal Access Department: access@care4calais.org
