Volunteer with us

As a charity, we are powered by volunteers. We started as a grassroots movement, and still rely on volunteers to carry out amazing work supporting refugees, asylum seekers and other displaced families and individuals.

Here in North Somerset the need is only growing. If you’d like to help, please get in touch. We welcome people who want to volunteer in a specific role, start up their own projects, or as a general volunteer who we might call upon as things arise.

Volunteering with RWNS can be flexible to fit your skills, interests and capacity. We have opportunities to get involved with face-to-face support for our friends and guests, as well as behind the scenes help with admin and logistics.

We’re looking for volunteers to join our friendly team.

We have lots of exciting, varied and flexible ways to get involved including helping at our Welcome Centres or pop-ups as a Welcome Centre Volunteer  or supporting people to feel settled in their new homes by joining us as a Tenancy Buddy. There are also opportunities to support more generally by for example offering lifts to attend social and community events or appointments.

Opportunities are available across multiple sites in North Somerset including Weston super Mare, Nailsea, Clevedon, Worle and Winford. For more information please refer to the role descriptions.

We also have a lot of other opportunities on offer, including helping with;

  • Administrative support
  • Fundraising and grant bid writing
  • Trusteeships
  • Social media, blog posts and generally publicising the great work we do
  • English conversation group support
  • Supporting people with IT issues
  • Supporting people with CVs and applying for jobs
  • Transport (driving people as well as driving donations)
  • Helping to coordinate events such as days out to a local farm
  • Spreading the word in your local community groups
  • …and lots more!

To apply for a role or to express interest in volunteering, please download the application form from the Resources page and send it to Josie at volunteer.coordinator@rwns.org.uk

Our Facebook group is also a great way to stay up to date as we often post short-term volunteering opportunities there too: https://www.facebook.com/groups/RefugeesWelcomeInNorthSomerset
