New Projects at RWNS
The needs of refugees, asylum seekers and other displaced people in North Somerset are only growing. As a charity we are also expanding in order to better support the people we serve. We have two new projects that will be running from the Welcome Centre in Weston Super Mare.
We have three new job opportunities to support these projects. For more information and how to apply please see rwns.org.uk/work-with-us. Deadline is 18th September 2023.
We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Centre, too. Please email donna.king@rwns.org.uk if you would like to help.
Welcome Meals
This project is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and made possible through the support of North Somerset Council.
We aim to engage and learn from the communities we serve in order to provide a meal to those using the Welcome Centre twice a week. The meals will be inspired by our volunteers’ home countries, be nutritious and environmentally considerate. We will also use this opportunity to offer ESOL support around practical language linked to the project.
Homework Club
This project is funded by the British Red Cross Ukraine Support Fund and made possible through the work of the Quartet Foundation
Homework club will support integration and learning of asylum seeking, refugee and migrant children and young people in North Somerset. It will also empower parents and carers to better understand the UK education system and curriculum and build their confidence in supporting their child’s learning at home. We aim to run one session a week from our Welcome Centre.
